Jon Delerious has been a stalwart of Canada’s thriving House music scene since the 90s, with previous releases on imprints such as Nordic Trax and Large Music releases championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier. Boasting low end rumble that will surely cause even the tightest trousers to flap, ’Sound Box’ is simply a good honest House groove, featuring dub sirens and dancehall vibes galore.
“I’ve always had a love of Dub and reggae music, and I knew I wanted to make a dub heavy roller of a track” says Delerious. “It’s all about the groove and the big bass line on this one, it definitely delivers on a big sound system, hence the title of the track.”
For the remix, Worship Recordings founder Rob Paine linked up with longtime friend Hipp-E in Denver, where the pair got busy in the studio raising the tempo and summoning up a true head-down, late night rolling Dub/Tech riddim, primed to do serious damage on the dancefloor.
Celebrating his 30th year in the music biz in 2023, Hipp-E expands a little about the the release: “I loved the Dub vibe on the original track, and felt we took it straight to the warehouse on this mix, utilizing some chuggy beats and heavy bass. Grateful for the relationship with Rob and Worship Records, and Cyaaant wait to see this hit the dance floor!”
“I couldn’t be more stoked for the Remix by Rob and Hipp-e” says Jon “I’m a huge fan of Hipp-e’s music and have been playing his records forever. H-Foundation / Hipp-E is a legend!”
As Rob Paine puts it, “I was less than halfway through listening ‘Sound Box’ and I already knew this was going to be the next Worship release. Jon absolutely crushed this one! Eric (Hipp-E) and I finally made some time to work together again, after talking about it for way too long. Just like my first listening experience, Eric was hooked immediately and we jumped right into this one. I am super happy with the way it came out. And with my recent road test of it, I think a lot of dance floors across the world will be happy as well.”
Understated and smooth, yet more than potent enough to move a dance-floor, ‘Love Right Now’ features Lady Alma’s spoken word poetry on the subject of love, alongside her harmony-drenched hook. Rob and Joey’s ‘Tech Dub’ sends the tune into trackier, more hypnotic territory, retaining the original’s classy, restrained feel, while Pete Moss summons up a timeless Deep House vibe for his floaty, spiritual reworking of the song.
“Joey (Crawford) and I met over 20 years ago in the Philly house music scene” says Rob Paine. “We stayed in touch all these years and one day he sent me some snippets he was messing around with. The groove of this particular one stood out to me the most. I immediately had some ideas to help take it to a finished state. We called in our sister Lady Alma, who knew exactly what it needed, which wasn’t a full traditional song structure. She created a call and response harmony builder that climaxes into a bridge where she recites a Psalm about love. This definitely had a Pete Moss feel to it, so it was only right to call the big man himself to do the remix. Really loved how organically this whole project came together.”"So great to be back on Worship with a new remix” says Pete Moss. “We have had many special releases over the years so when Rob asked me to be a part of this project with Alma I jumped at the chance. She has always been such an inspiring artist and a true Philly gem. The project came together nicely I must say, I hope everyone enjoys it.”
We’ll leave the final word to Lady Alma: “‘Love Right Now’ is a syncopated groove with cosmic keys and the mantra reminding the dancer and the DJs to love and let the love shine through to the people, the dancers, the children, THE WORLD”. Amen to that.

Originally issued in 2018 as a limited 7” ’45 by venerable Portland label ZamZam Sounds, ‘Selassie's Song’ by Rob Paine & Heights finally gets a digital release on Worship Recordings, complete with extended mixes and an all-new dub ‘Version’.
Worship Recordings & Solomonic Sound System founder and co-host of Philadelphia’s infamous Shakedown parties, Rob Paine works across a wide array of genres, highly respected both as a DJ and producer across the globe. Rob’s longtime friend and fellow Philly native Heights may be better known under the moniker Ras Heights, a name he employed while playing with the city’s Ital Sound System in 2000’s, before joining forces with Paine in 2013.
‘Selassie's Song’ is a bass-heavy, eyes-down slice of forward-thinking dub techno, with hypnotic percussion and synth atmospheres connecting with traditional binghi drums and a little spoken-word wisdom. The ‘Break Every Chain’ mix is described by ZamZam’s original release notes as “a masterclass in deep & esoteric dubwise”, amps up the atmosherics and echoes, creating a swirling yet grounded deep spiritual ride. The previously unreleased ‘Version’ strips the track down to bare bones, putting ‘Selassie's Song’’s languid reggae skank out-front alongside near-subliminal techno flavours.
